Simavi established the School Sanitation Fund by the end of 2007. At that time all partners were invited to collaborate on school sanitation. From that moment Simavi also started to raise funds from Dutch organisations and individuals specifically for this Fund.
Request could be sent in till May 2008. By then Simavi received over 200 applications, 50% from Africa and 50% from Asia. The Simavi School Sanitation Committee consisting of three project officers (Saskia Geling, Erik van de Giessen and Jurrie de Hart) assessed all proposals. We would have loved to support all good proposals, but unfortunately the School Sanitation Fund is too limited to approve all of them. At first € 300,000 was reserved. By now the amount for this Fund increased to approximately € 400,000. Till date (July 2008) the Committee approved 21 projects for the total amount of € 274,901. Some proposals are still under discussion. Approximately 170 applications have been rejected.
It is expected that most approved projects just started or will start in due time. It is planned that after finalizing most projects Simavi will share an overview of the School Sanitation Fund and the learnings from the approved projects by end of 2009.
We do regret we have to inform you that it is not possible anymore to send in a proposal for this Fund.
